I often hear people talking about value for money but value is relative in all cases that involve money. You need to first analyze your needs and then be realistic about what you are likely to save with extra investment. Take a look at why some shredders can cost about $70 and come cost around $7,000 and more.

It’s should be common sense really that an expensive piece of equipment should do more. In an ideal world that would be true but you have to make sure you’re getting what you’re paying for. First make sure that you know what you need before making a decision on what you need to shop around for. It’s all very well having something that can get through a couple of telephone directories a minute but do you need it?

After a busy day or week you may have thousands of six or seven page application forms to dispose of. If that is the case then you are going to need something more than a five sheet shredder with a 4 gallon container. You would need something at the high end with a couple of horsepower motor that can handle forty plus feet of paper/minute.

A top of the range machine can cost in excess of $10,000 like the Destroyit 4005 SMC. That particular model retails at $11,549 but is available at a little over $7000 if you shop around. There are others that can munch through over forty feet per minute and have a similar specification so look around.

While that model is right up near the top level, you would also have others that can offer the same sort of performance. One good advantage is that it has a ten year warranty but there are few situations that could justify that sort of expenditure.

Something which retails for $6,995 but can be found for half that with a little effort is the Dahle 20831EC. This sturdy addition to the workplace can shred between 16 and 18 pages at a time and can deal with 16 inch wide sheets. It has a one and a half horsepower motor which can get through fifteen feet of paper every minute which is powerful enough to suit nearly every business out there.

A good benefit that comes with these and other high end shredders is an automatic feed and reverse function. So that when you get a small jam then it automatically reverses and starts feeding again. If you are shredding fan fold paper, this means that you can place the paper at the shredder and leave it to carry on unsupervised. The less time staff spend at the shredder the more value for money the shredder will be.

If you are just looking for something for a small business or office then something like the Intellishred SB-99Ci is pretty good value for money. This model has a retail of $549.98 but is available for a lot less with a concerted effort. This shredder from Fellowes can shred without stop for 25 minutes and does 17 sheets at a time. The big plus is that it has a 2 year warranty but for the actual cutters it has a lifetime warranty.

To protect yourself from identity theft, you need to always shred your documents that have personal knowledge. With a crosscut shredder, you will find that it’s the greatest for protecting you. A cross cut shredder is one of the greatest items we have.
