Every second, every minute, every hour and every day, anyone becomes a victim of ID theft. The criminal act is perpetrated when sufficient information about an identity of a person is obtained to facilitate fraud, regardless of whether the victim is dead or alive. The malicious act can result to fraud affecting an individuals personal financial circumstances as well as costs of charges for financial services.

Every person is different from the other, and this is true even between twins. One distinguishing aspect in a person is the name. Other circumstances are additional distinctive information like the persons date of birth, place of birth, full maiden name of the mother, and documents or papers for identification like social security number or insurance plan.

Identity theft can leave you feeling overwhelmed. It seems like so much that needs to be done. The effects do not have to be permanent. There are some simple steps to follow to alleviate the problem.

Initially, the crime needs to be reported. Contact your local police department and inquire about filing a police report. Next go to the Federal Trade Commission and report the crime as well. You can do it by phone or online. The record is important as you will need it later on.
